Replacing a Fixture Versus Adding a New One
Swapping a fixture where one already exists is the simpler job. The supply and drain are in place, so the work is mostly about fit: matching the drain position, the valve height and the mounting. Even so, we replace tired angle stops and brittle supply lines while we’re there, because a new fixture sitting on a seized valve is a service call waiting to happen.
Adding a fixture where there wasn’t one means running new supply lines and often a new drain with a proper vent. A utility tub in the garage, a pot filler behind the range or a hose bibb on a side of the house that never had one all land in this category. Bathtub Installation Up Close
A tub swap is the biggest job on this page, and most of the work is out of sight. The old drain and overflow usually come out with the old tub, so we fit a new assembly, set the tub level on a proper base, and line the drain up with the trap below before anything is fixed in place. Alcove tubs need the flange tucked behind the wall board so water can’t track behind it. The tub valve stays unless it’s worn or the new spout won’t reach, in which case we’ll tell you before the wall is opened. Tile and surround work follows ours, and the tub is filled and drained before anyone closes it in.
What to Have Ready Before We Arrive
If you’re buying the fixture yourself, keep the box and the installation sheet. Tubs, pot fillers and bidet seats all come with specific rough-in dimensions, and checking them against your space before install day saves a second trip. Measure the opening for a tub, and find the nearest outlet if you’ve picked a powered bidet seat.

Testing and Handover
Every new fixture gets run before we pack up. On an exterior wall that sees freezing nights, a frost-resistant bibb keeps the valve seat inside the warm part of the wall. It’s a sensible upgrade when an old one starts leaking.
